Why choose Engineering?
From manufacturing quality products both efficiently and safely, to ensuring delivery on time to our customers, the Engineering function in our businesses is vital.
This programme is designed to develop future engineering leaders in our business. We would expect you to come off our programme into an Engineering Manager position but our commitment to you goes beyond the graduate scheme. We see this as the first step in your ongoing career within engineering at ABF and anticipate you reaching a Site Engineering position within a further 4 years.
What will you be doing?
Over this 24-month graduate programme you will gain hands-on experience of production, learn about the processes and machinery used in manufacturing our products, spend time on the production line, solve product line breakdown problems as well as get involved in on-going maintenance.
You will also gain experience by working in the following areas:
• Specifying and installing equipment
• Developing and applying maintenance techniques
• Leading teams of engineering technicians
• Interfacing with all functions across the business at all levels
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people who have a real passion for engineering and who want to understand how the different strands of this function impact the workplace. You will be offered the opportunity to become a Chartered Engineer on our programme and will receive extensive training, combining practical technical engineering skills with core management training.
What do our Grads say?
Since joining the engineering graduate scheme with Allied Bakeries I have been fortunate enough to spend time at four of our different sites in four different cities! From Belfast to Cardiff, I have carried out various different roles and been involved in some very exciting new plant installations. The aspect I like most about working in engineering at Allied Bakeries is that the role is extremely varied and every day is different. The nature of our business means that it is very fast paced and things more often than not do not go how you planned, but that’s what makes it all the more interesting! You gain a lot of exposure very early on and it is a REAL job with REAL responsibilities and I cannot emphasise this enough. I think this is one of the key ways in which ABF puts itself ahead of other engineering graduate schemes. There is a real opportunity to get stuck in and make a difference!
